We told him that we were going to the doctor and that they were going to fix his eye. We didn’t want to scare him or anything but at the same time we didn’t want him to freak out when we got there.

Argh! I hope we are doing the right thing. I hope everything goes ok.

So, since I haven’t posted in a while I figured that I would give an update on how things have been going around our house lately. I can’t remember if I have posted about this since it has all happened or not so if I have just skim on down until you find something you haven’t read about.

Back in September of last year, Z was diagnosed with a superior oblique palsy of the right eye which is a type of strabismus. For those of you that don’t know what that means, it is typically referred to as “lazy eye” and it is where his right eye goes inward and upward. He has a fairly severe intermittent deviation which means that it doesn’t happen all of the time but when it does it is bad. The majority of his iris and all of his pupil go inside of the lid.

Since then, we have been patching almost every day. We were supposed to patch for 2 hours everyday but that hasn’t always happened. Well, his check-up with the doctor was on May 19th at Texas Children’s and his eye has gotten worse. He is now completely favoring his good eye. Tilting his head and closing his bad eye when he has to see something at a distance. The doctor was not pleased with this at all so she said it was time to do surgery to correct it.Surgery is scheduled for June 1st and I am excited and nervous about it. Its scary thinking about my little one being cut open.

I just hope that it is successful and that his eyes will work together and that we won’t have to do another surgery.
